12 Days of Christmas Stories: Day 10

Day 10: Nerves/Excitement

Tomorrow we are the holy family in the Family Christmas Eve service at Church, our new baby is Jesus and my big kids are angels. I can’t help but think about the commotion and stress for Mary, leading up to the birth of Jesus.

We can anticipate life with nerves and excitement at the same time; in fact it’s the same physical bodily response. Often, that is the process our candidates experience prior to starting a new job – and when it turns into something good or to be something they themselves couldn’t even fathom it’s pretty great.

  • Gary had covid and needed to leave his position to recover. He got a new job that better supported his recovery but didn’t provide hours in the summer. He reached back out and asked to return – he did and he never left because he was so happy!
  • Rick is a single dad with limited work options because of daycare drop off and pick up – he took a leap of faith in a new role/industry because the hours worked!
  • Abe was really slow when we worked with him – thoughtful and intentional in what he was doing and saying through the entire process. He came here from Nigeria and had family to care for back home, he only had 1 cousin here and wanted to be a good example for his family of what it means to work.
  • Brody was working on assignment until he was laid off several years ago. He went elsewhere and this year he came back with a leap of faith and was hired on permanently at last!
  • Goofy Gary (he told us to call him goofy!), he was nervous to fill out paperwork the first time he came into our office. He started a couple positions and they didn’t work out because he didn’t like them. The third position stuck – he loved it because it gave him the chance to listen to his favorite podcasts every day, and his attendance has been flawless!
  • Shakira was particular, or was she nervous? She tried a few positions and they didn’t work out. After a few weeks a new position looked promising and she loved it. She interviewed and hit it off – hasn’t missed a single day, she’s so happy.
  • Eman was a referral. He works full time but doesn’t feel like the company cares about him. He doesn’t see himself there long term and is interested in other opportunities where he might be valued more. He spoke up about pay, consistently expressed gratitude for the flexibility in his schedule and demonstrates an amazing work ethic every day.
  • Ava worked on and off for a short term position for a long time. She spoke up about wanting to do more and trying something else – it was a big change but she landed in a new home and LOVES it!
  • Randall worked at our customer for many years before they eliminated his role, he was bummed but he moved on. When our customer had a temporary opening he took a leap of faith and gave notice and started the temporary position – ultimately, he was selected to interview and hired on perm again! He was so dedicated to the customer, he loved working there and is a perfect fit with his skills, communication, drive and courage.

See you tomorrow,

Heather
