12 Days of Christmas Stories 2019 – Day 12

Showing up.

Here I am, again. Back to share with you the joy from 2019 as we countdown to Christmas.

All year long I am talking to everyone about stories – moments of greatness, moments that make us pause and moments worthy of celebrating. I tuck each note, story, forwarded email, etc away into a folder and I dive in, 12 days out from Christmas. I’m not entirely sure how this started, but I can tell you that this year my head was NOT in the game. I’ve found myself nervous to begin, nervous to share, and nervous to be me. But here I am, and I’m here because one person reminded me that the same feelings we have when we are nervous are the feelings we have when we’re excited – so I made a shift mentally. And what really did me in today specifically was receiving an unexpected note in my inbox – one of those notes that reaches out and touches your heart and a note that reminded me that showing up, matters.

Life can be hard. Decisions can be hard. Balance can be hard. I’ve found that the first step toward any action or progress, is simply showing up. Today, let’s celebrate and share stories of folks who win at Showing Up.

  • We worked with Lori several years back, she was hired on and in a great gig. Flash forward, things changed at that company – and who showed up at our office? Lori. We were thrilled to work with her again and get her successfully placed in a new ‘home’ where she’s happy!
  • Walter was hired on at our customer, one reason he stood out was due to his consistent attendance; he came back to our office to see his recruiter to share how happy he was where he was working and how he missed his Vision team too. Walter showed up.
  • Joe won tickets from us for a wild game – because he, among many, had strong attendance consistently – when we called to tell him, he was in disbelief. He said he usually likes to stay out of our hair, because that means he’s doing well; You definitely are Joe, and that’s why you got hired!
  • Andrew recently checked in with us and let us know he’s looking forward to visiting for our annual appreciation event. He’s been with us for 2 years already! He consistently works ~50 hours a week without batting an eye – its fun when time sneaks up on you because you’re busy being awesome. Thanks, Andrew!
  • We hosted 10+ groups of students on site at our customers this year to help them see and learn; with each group that came through we quizzed them asking for the #1 reason people don’t keep their job – and not a single group of students guessed it correctly; attendance. It was a great opportunity to speak to the importance of showing up, even to places and spaces that aren’t your favorite 🙂 Thankfully, every group of students arrived on time or early 🙂

Merry Christmas to you and yours,

-Heather
