How to Transform your Temporary Assignment into a Full-Time Offer

By March 21, 2022 Job Seekers

Have you ever thought about accepting a temporary assignment? If not, it might be time to reconsider how temporary employment works and how it can benefit you. Using temporary contracts as a stepping stone to a full-time offer is a method many job seekers use and many businesses are adopting and continues to prove to be successful. Consider these tips to help you transform your current gig into the full-time position of your dream.

Treat it as a Permanent Position

When you’re working on a temporary assignment, the most important thing is to show that you want to be there. Employers want people who have a positive attitude and a buy-in to the company culture. Be excited about the work you’re doing and eager to learn more as you grow.

Go Beyond the Minimum

Make sure you’re performing your scheduled tasks at a high level, don’t be afraid to ask for more. Companies like it when someone takes the initiative. You are capable of so much with your time and talent. Offer to take on other tasks to lessen the workload of other team members to show that you can be a valuable team player.

Be Reliable

Showing up on time is just the beginning when it comes to reliability. Demonstrating how reliable you are means meeting or exceeding deadlines and respecting other people’s time. Your supervisor will recognize your commitment and build trust.

Network

Get to know the team. Learn more about your direct supervisor and provide them with value while you’re there. Don’t be afraid to become part of the team, even if the position is only short-term. The more people you know, the better a chance you’ll have at a full-time offer.

Talk to your Recruiter

Finally, it’s also imperative that you’re able to make your wishes known. Talk to your recruiter about your interest in the company, what you like about working there, and let them know that you’re looking for a full-time job. Ask them to get feedback from your supervisor if your supervisor is not already giving it to you. The recruiter should know the likelihood of being hired on and if you are on the right path.  If you have worked several temporary positions in the past, make sure they know you’re interested in a permanent spot with the company.
