Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and certified Forklift Operator for a temporary assignment in Northeast Minneapolis. This position is responsible for safely loading, unloading, moving, and stacking large totes weighing approximately 2,000 pounds each.
The ideal candidate has significant forklift experience, particularly loading and unloading trucks and safely handling heavy loads. The forklift may be handling loads weighing up to approximately 6,000 pounds at a time, making strong equipment operating skills and a commitment to safety essential for this position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely operate a forklift to load, unload, move, and position large totes and materials.
- Handle individual totes weighing approximately 2,000 pounds.
- Safely transport forklift loads weighing up to approximately 6,000 pounds at a time.
- Load and unload trucks accurately and efficiently.
- Stack and organize totes according to established storage and safety requirements.
- Properly position forklift forks and loads to maintain stability during transport.
- Inspect loads before lifting or moving to ensure they are secure and properly balanced.
- Stage incoming and outgoing materials in designated areas.
- Assist with organizing and maintaining inventory and material locations.
- Perform required forklift safety inspections before operation.
- Maintain awareness of pedestrians, equipment, trailers, and surrounding materials while operating the forklift.
- Report damaged products, unsafe conditions, or equipment concerns immediately.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Follow all company forklift, warehouse, and workplace safety procedures.
- Assist with additional warehouse and material handling responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications:
- Current forklift certification required.
- Previous professional forklift operating experience required.
- Previous experience loading and unloading trucks required.
- Experience safely handling large, heavy, or oversized loads strongly preferred.
- Must be comfortable operating a forklift while handling loads weighing up to approximately 6,000 pounds.
- Strong understanding of forklift load stability, weight distribution, and safe material handling practices.
- Ability to safely stack and position large totes.
- Strong spatial awareness and attention to surroundings.
- Ability to follow loading, unloading, storage, and safety instructions accurately.
- Dependable with consistent attendance and a strong work ethic.
- Safety-focused with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to sit and operate forklift equipment for extended periods.
- Ability to frequently climb on and off equipment and perform standing, walking, bending, and reaching as required.
Working Conditions:
- Warehouse and logistics environment involving large, heavy materials.
- Frequent forklift operation and truck loading and unloading.
- Regular interaction with trailers, stacked totes, moving equipment, and other warehouse activity.
- Position requires heightened awareness due to the size and weight of materials being transported.
- Required use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Must consistently follow established forklift and material handling safety procedures.
