Job Summary:
We are seeking a dependable and hands-on Shipping / Crate Builder to support shipping and production operations. This position is responsible for constructing custom wooden crates and pallets to safely prepare finished products for shipment.
The ideal candidate has previous carpentry or woodworking experience, is comfortable using saws and power tools, and can accurately read a tape measure. This role is well suited for someone who enjoys hands-on work and takes pride in producing sturdy, quality work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build wooden crates and pallets for outgoing product shipments.
- Measure and cut wood according to required dimensions and specifications.
- Use miter saws, panel saws, cordless drill drivers, and other hand and power tools.
- Read and interpret measurements accurately using a tape measure.
- Assemble crates and pallets securely to protect products during transportation.
- Inspect completed crates and pallets for quality and proper construction.
- Follow shop instructions, production requirements, and shipping specifications.
- Adjust priorities and move between tasks based on daily production needs.
- Assist with preparing finished products for shipment.
- Work collaboratively with shipping, production, and warehouse team members.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Follow all company safety procedures when operating saws, drills, and other equipment.
- Assist with additional shipping and production responsibilities as assigned.
- Work overtime as needed based on production requirements.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of carpentry, woodworking, crate building, construction, or related experience preferred.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure.
- Experience using miter saws, panel saws, drills, and other power tools preferred.
- Strong hand-eye coordination and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Dependable and punctual with consistent attendance.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Willingness to work overtime as needed.
- Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift and handle materials weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to frequently bend, reach, lift, and perform repetitive movements.
- Ability to safely operate saws, drills, and other woodworking equipment.
Working Conditions:
- Fast-paced manufacturing, shipping, and production environment.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, and repetitive movement.
- Regular use of saws, drills, hand tools, and other woodworking equipment.
- Exposure to typical production noise, wood materials, and manufacturing equipment.
- Physically demanding work involving the construction and handling of crates and pallets.
- Required use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Must follow established equipment operation and workplace safety procedures.
