How to Leave the Stress of the Job at your Place of Work

By November 21, 2022 Job Seekers

Work can be stressful. There was a time when we didn’t talk about stress and anxiety in the workplace, which led to increased risk factors for heart disease and strokes. Taking that stress home at the end of the day will only burden you and your loved ones, so it’s imperative that you figure out positive stress relievers. Here are tips to help you leave the stress of work at work.

Create Your To-Do List

If you only do one thing to help remove some anxiety from your time away from work, do this. At the end of every work day, review what you need to do when you get back to work and write it down. Make your to-do list so you can not think about everything waiting for you in the office. You can enjoy your time away from work without worrying.

Use Your Commute to Decompress

Your work day has been stressful, so use your commute home to decompress. Listen to an audiobook, a fun podcast, or your favorite music. Use this time to call friends and family (hands-free, of course) and talk about what’s been going on. Then when you get home, you won’t feel as stressed.

Schedule Time for Fun Activities

Many of us arrive home exhausted and want to watch TV or go to bed. But that leads to a more significant stress, anxiety, and depression cycle. We need connection and community for our mental well-being. Schedule time with friends or family to ensure you’re doing something fun at least a few times a week.

Set Work Hours and Boundaries

One of the most important things you can do to avoid workplace stress is to set hours and establish boundaries. After you clock out, don’t go back to checking emails or responding to messages. Know that it’s okay to say no to requests in the workplace if they don’t fit in with what you’re working on or can be done in the time you have available.
