Work-Life balance has been an increasingly popular subject in recent years. Especially since the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted our working world, many of us are working on new ways to integrate our work and personal lives. If you’re trying to achieve a better work-life balance, consider these tips to set boundaries for yourself.

Establish Your Work Hours

The first step to creating a better work-life balance is establishing your work hours. It’s far too easy to let yourself work anytime you walk past your desk. You do not need to be available 24/7, even if you work from home. Establish your start time and your end time and make those firm. Let others know that these are the hours you’ll be working both in and out of the office.

Make Time for You

It’s also vital that you take time in your day for breaks. Especially when the boundaries of work and home life are blurred, it can be easy to ignore time away from the desk. This goes for short breaks, lunch hours, and even vacation time. Don’t let yourself feel guilty for being out of the office. Use PTO and sick time even you could work from home. It’s essential to use the time away from work to recharge.

Don’t Take Work Stress Home

Job-related stress is a leading cause of heart disease, heart attacks, and strokes. Even if you’re working in a high-stress job, it’s important to avoid bringing that stress home with you after work. Resources help you with this balance, including virtual and in-person therapy, keeping a stress journal, or engaging in relaxing activities.

Make Your Task List

Creating a to-do list can help you stay on task. Keep a calendar, whether online or on your desk, where you can write down the things you need to accomplish each day. You can cross them off when you’re done to see your progress, which can give you a sense of accomplishment and boost your mood.

Plan Your Following Day

To better maintain your work and life balance, always take a few minutes to review your following day at the end of each day. Ensure you know what needs to be accomplished when you arrive at your desk, so you’re not feeling overwhelmed in the mornings.
