10+ years ago I personally met with Rick. I was new-ish to this recruiting gig and I was having fun being a unicorn….not really having any true understanding of what it meant. I remember him vividly – at that time, there were LOTS of people looking for work -but Rick was different. He had a genuine nature about him, he was so humble and truly kind. His heart was pure and I was so proud to have met him. He was “thrust into the job market unexpectedly” and later when he wrote me a note of thanks he said he was welcomed by us “with open arms” and the one thing he remembered after his interview was “I actually felt confident and good about myself again!”
Over the years I have seen Rick on many occasions; most recently I would see him every other week on site at that same customer, we’d chat about life updates and he’d teach me about machines. Life has a funny way of bringing things full circle and connecting the dots for us. Here I sit, my heart swelling as I remember how Rick made ME feel. I learned today that Rick just passed away, my heart goes out to his entire family during such a difficult time.
Please include his family in your prayers, hug yours if you haven’t in a bit or maybe just a little extra – and always remember your words and actions reverberate beyond your own understanding. I encourage you to take a moment today, right now – and tell someone why they are appreciated, or how they make you feel.
