Workplace Trends We’ll See in 2021

By January 13, 2021 April 30th, 2021 Managers

2020 was a challenging year for us all, but as we transition into the new year, many companies are looking at future workplace trends. So what can your business expect in 2021, and how can you make your workplace a positive experience for your employees? Here are some of the trends experts are seeing for the coming year and beyond.

Mental Health Awareness

With the pandemic showing a bright spotlight on how workplace stress can impact health and wellbeing, many companies are taking this time to focus on mental health awareness initiatives. For many, this means utilizing wellness apps that can help their employees destress and refocus. There are many apps available, but some of the popular ones include:

  • Calm
  • Headspace
  • Fitbit
  • Talkspace

Safety and Health are Priorities

While mental health is rising to the top of the list in terms of employee wellness, we can’t forget what got us here in the first place. COVID-19 stressed the essential nature of employee health and safety. For example, enforcing sick time policies to ensure that employees do not come into the office when experiencing symptoms of something that may be contagious needs to remain a major priority.

More Remote and Hybrid Work Access

Many organizations embraced remote work, and while some are returning to the office as things begin to even out, others are continuing down that path. Remote work, when handled properly, can increase productivity. Other companies are considering a transition to a hybrid model where not all employees are on-site each day, which helps people maintain social distancing.

Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives

Another struggle that was highlighted throughout 2020 was discrimination toward black, indigenous, and people of color. The acronym BIPOC has become commonly used to describe this diverse group of individuals. Other communities, such as LGBTQ+,  and the idea of intersectionality also became topics of conversation. Companies are working hard to have better diversity and inclusion initiatives in the workplace, starting with the hiring process and eliminating unconscious bias.
